Deborah Collins is known for sensitivity, care, and attention to detail, both in her approach to design and in her interactions with clients and team members. As the head of HMFH’s internal design committee, Deborah’s design sensibility impacts every project in the office. Her unassuming and collaborative approach resonates with many of our clients, and she works hard to help clients make the fully informed decisions they might make if they themselves were architects—decisions that result in timeless buildings that prove efficient and cost-effective over time. Deborah’s signature work has involved the design of special buildings that stand on their own merit, yet are deftly incorporated into existing contexts. Her work on the award-winning new Arts Center at Beaver Country Day School responds specifically to the needs of the school and the restrictions of the existing campus, maintaining an appropriately compact footprint and complementing the appearance of surrounding campus structures. At the same time, the space is filled with light, color, and texture—elegant design measures that befit an environment intended to promote artistic excellence.
