John Miller’s personal legacy is one of collaboration and consensus building, and this legacy has infused HMFH’s identity as an organization. As a founding principal, John has led many of the firm’s significant projects, from the preservation of a beloved historic building for the Lincoln School in Winchester, to the humanizing effect of natural light for urban Charlestown High School, to the bold geometry of Coastal Cement Corporation; and projects under his leadership have been honored with numerous awards, including two Walter Taylor Awards, the American Association of School Administrators’ highest honor.

John’s near fifty years of experience make him a valuable resource both in and out of the office, and he has been active throughout his career in examining and guiding public policy that affects the built environment, from international issues of accreditation reciprocity, to his own neighborhood’s zoning board. John was a founding member over twenty years ago and currently serves as Co-Chair of the BSA’s Educational Facilities Committee, which facilitates a dialogue between architects and policymakers by working with the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) to establish regulations and standards for public schools in the Commonwealth.
