Pip Lewis is an exceptionally thorough architect who actively explores multiple solutions when solving a design problem. He has developed a special expertise in solving the thorny design challenges posed by projects on constrained sites and adaptive reuse of urban buildings, particularly those with limited budgets. When faced with an educational program more ambitious than the project budget, Pip approaches it like a complicated puzzle, reimagining space until it fits. He actively puts the owner’s best interests first, testing a range of ideas to find the best alternative. Pip works tirelessly to create design from the leanest of budgets and his MATCH School in the iconic, former Ellis the Rim Man building in Boston has been recognized for preservation, green design and educational design excellence. Through his work on charter schools and through Cambridge’s Kids Need a Chance program, Pip has actively mentored teenagers interested in architecture. In addition, he is Vice Chair of the Designer Selection Board of the Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development.
