As part of an expansion of Bard College’s residential North Campus, HMFH completed a conceptual design for four 50-student houses and an adjacent 24-hour study center. The houses integrate the scale, materials and idiosyncratic nature of the Collegiate Gothic campus with modern details and open, light-filled interior spaces. A mix of traditional and suite-style rooms, as well as central kitchens and study areas, bring lower- and upper-classmen together and encourage mentoring and community engagement.
The study center defines the entry to North Campus and anchors the residential community within the overall campus context. The large central space and surrounding meeting rooms, workspaces, and computer facilities foster student collaboration and innovation. As with the residence halls, stone and glass reflect the historic campus buildings, but combine into a forward-looking architecture.
