Methuen's new comprehensive grammar
school houses 1200 students in kindergarten through eighth grades. In order to
establish a small school atmosphere within the 172,000 sf building, the school
is divided into separate kindergarten, elementary and middle school academic structures,
with shared library, auditorium, cafeteria, physical education and administrative
spaces. Constraints of a sloping site and wetland protection regulations determined
the location of the building and playing fields on the 27-acre parcel. Separate
recreation areas are provided for each age group. Each
classroom is equipped for a minimum of seven networked computers. The network
consists of Level V cable in a star configuration with separate home run from
each computer to back to the file server at the "head end." A programmable
AT&T System 25 telephone in every classroom provides voice mail and computerized
account management. An in-house video distribution system provides two-way transmission
/receiving capability from each video outlet, with a video monitor in each classroom.
