This new 1000 student high school is designed
with two distinct classroom wings to house grades 9-10 and 11-12
off of a shared core, consisting of administration, gymnasium, library,
art, guidance suite, drama/music/Black Box theatre and centralized
Commons. Site ammenities include baseball, softball, soccer fields
and 8-lane running track with lighted soccer field, tennis courts
and concession stand/ticket booth.
The lower floors contain Math and Science classrooms with Humanities
classrooms on the upper floors. All classrooms have wireless computer
technology, video projector, vcr and sound system. Business classrooms
are designed with tiered levels and built-in tables similar to college
seminar rooms. Humanities classrooms share mini-labs for separate
student projects. Science labs are paired and dispersed in each
wing, with shared science prep rooms. The library overlooks both
the gymnasium and the Commons and contains space for class seminars,
small group study rooms and a Senior Project room. The "Black
Box" or experimental theatre along with drama and music suite
is located directly off the central Commons. The double height Commons,
full of daylight, seats up to 400 students in three distinct areas,
providing a multi-purpose space for studying, socializing, and eating.
Balconies and stairs cross the commons to link spaces on the upper
levels. The TV studio, equipped and operated by the local cable
company, provides teaching, broadcasting and editing space. The
Art Suite includes separate Ceramics and General Art spaces with
natural light from above, and the Photography area contains both
classroom and darkroom. The gymnasium has a tournament level basketball
court with seating for 800 spectators, weight/exercise and aerobics
rooms, and locker rooms with separate team rooms and training space.
