As a follow up to its recently completed strategic
plan, the Glen Urquhart School hired HMFH to develop a master plan
for its K-8 campus. Since its founding 25 years ago, this independent
school has adapted existing estate structures and added a multi-purpose
building.
The master plan will develop a long-range vision for the 235-student
campus and an organized plan for new construction as well as replacement
and expansion of existing buildings. Most of its current programs
are underhoused in inappropriate spaces. Without a master plan,
the academic and administrative spaces have evolved without any
overall organization, resulting in poor circulation, lack of adequate
staff and faculty spaces, inaccessible facilities, and poorly planned
adjacencies. In addition, traffic and parking conflict with pedestrian
movement on the site. The challenge of the master plan design will
be to create a campus plan to allow appropriate growth and create
a strong campus image and sense of place, without losing the friendly
and informal character of the school.
